Quartier historique, que faire ?
Très vivant la journée mais à fuir le soir ! (Les rues sont vides et on n’a pas vraiment envie de s’attarder…). On commence par la place principale « Zocalo » qui peut être un bon point de départ pour la visite. On admire l’immense cathédrale Metropolitana.
To Do in the historical district
Very lively during the day…but not recommended in the evening! (The streets are empty and you want to avoid lingering on…). Start your tour by visiting the « Zocalo » main square. Have a look at the huge Metropolitana Cathedral.
Juste à côté se situe le Palacio Nacional ou l’on s’amuse à déchiffrer les fresques de l’immense artiste Diego Riviera. Dans le même coin le Templo Mayor nous projette dans le passé avec ses ruines bien conservées.
Just next door, you will find the Palacio Nacional, where you may want to read the frescoes painted by the great artist Diego Riviera. In the same area, the Templo Mayor and its well-preserved ruins look like a projection into the past.
Faire du shopping autour du Palacio de Bella Arte. C’est un peu les Champs Elysées de Mexico City ! Juste à côté le parc Alameda offre une pause rafraichissante. Jetez un œil à la rue Condesa il y a plein de vieilles photographies à dénicher !
Shopping around the Palacio de Bella Arte. It is looking like the Champs Elysées of Mexico City! Just next door, Alameda Park offers a refreshing break. Pass by Condesa Street: there are plenty of old photographs waiting for you!
Prendre de la hauteur. En montant au sommet de la tour Latinoamericana. Plutôt sympa et permet d’avoir une vue d’ensemble sur la topologie de la ville.
Get higher. Climb on the top of the Latinoamericana tower. Nice landscape giving you a good overview of the topology of the city.
Se prendre pour un local au marché couvert San Juan. Cela a été mon rendez-vous quotidien puisque je déjeunais là tous les jours ! On y trouve l’essentiel de la nourriture mexicaine dans une ambiance de quartier. Un bonheur.
Think you were a local at the San Juan covered market. This was my daily appointment since I had lunch there every day! You may find all typical Mexican dishes in a friendly atmosphere. So lovely.

En dessert on se délecte de montagne de fruit frais ou de la meilleure glace au monde : maracuya.
As a dessert, you can enjoy plenty of fresh fruits or the world´s best ice cream: maracuya.
On remplit son sac de souvenirs, au marché artisanal de la Cuidadela. N’hésitez pas à négocier et à faire un tour avant d’acheter, en terme de prix on peut vite passer du simple au triple !
You might fill in your backpack with souvenirs at the Cuidadela handicraft market. Feel free to negotiate and check carefully before buying, price may double or even triple!
Dormir dans l’excellent hostel Regina. En un an de voyage je le déclare meilleur hostel. La décoration est à couper le souffle, les pizzas au rez-de-chaussée sont démentes, les soirées sur le rooftop sont dingues et les lofts qui font offices de dortoir sont tout ce qu’un voyageur puisse rêver.
Sleep in the excellent Regina Hostel. Over an entire year travelling, I have officially classified it as the best hostel ever! The decoration is breathtaking, the pizzas served on the ground floor are delicious, whilst evenings on the rooftop are crazy and the lofts rehabilitated as dormitories are just the Dream of any traveler.
Quartier Roma/ Condesa
C’est un de mes quartier préférés à Mexico City ! On se croirait un peu dans le marais à Paris, c’est le repère des bobos. Il y a plein de galeries d’art et des restaurants plus divins les uns que les autres. Jetez un œil à la galerie Casa Lamm l’endroit est super !
Quartier Roma/Condesa district.
This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Mexico City! Such as the Parisian marsh, it is the landmark of modern hippies. There are many art galleries and restaurants, all of them are just divine. Take a look at the Casa Lamm gallery, this place is awesome!

Parc Chapultepec, que faire?
On s’imagine prince et princesse au Castillo de Chapultepec grâce a sa superbe vue sur le parc et la reconstituions des pièces à vivres de ce château du 19ème siècle.

Imagine you were a prince or a princess at the Castillo de Chapultepec and admire the superb view of its park, as well as the reconstruction of the food rooms of this 19th century castle.
On retrace la vie de nos ancêtres au très célèbre Musée Nacional d’Anthropologie. Si vous n’êtes pas amateur passez votre chemin !
Head up to the National Museum of Anthropology to discover the way of life of our ancestors.
Allez jeter un œil au quartier chic de Polenco en visitant le musée Sumaya. L’architecture du bâtiment vaut le détour (en revanche j’ai moins aimé les collections).
Forget about it if you are not an amateur! Have a look at the chic Polenco district by visiting the Sumaya Museum. The architecture of the building is worth a visit (on the other hand, I the collections did not impressed me that much).
Quartier Cayocan, que faire ?
Enorme coup de cœur pour cet ancien quartier d’artiste situé au sud de la ville. On vient se perdre dans les rues bordées d’adorables maisons colorées. La place principale avec son église et ses fontaines offrent un joli cadre pour se balader.

I had a real crush on this former artists´ district located in the south of the city. Enjoy getting lost in the streets surrounded by adorable, colorful houses. The main square along with its church and fountains offer a beautiful setting for a walk.
On part explorer les traces de Frida Khalo ! La Casa Azul aujourd’hui transformée en musée fut le lieu de vie des artistes Frida Khalo et Diego Riviera pendant de nombreuses années. C’est fascinant. Il faut prendre les billets en avance sur internet et éviter d’y aller le weekend car le lieu est pris d’assaut. Une exposition temporaire retrace le style vestimentaire de Frida, j’étais au paradis dans cet endroit exceptionnel !
Go exploring Frida Khalo’s tracks! The Casa Azul has been rehabilitated into a museum, but it used to be the house of the artists Frida Khalo and Diego Riviera many years ago. It is fascinating. You need to buy tickets in advance on the internet, and should avoid going there on weekends because the place is overcrowded. A temporary exhibition retraces Frida’s clothing style; I was feeling like in paradise in this exceptional place!
Faire un saut dans le passé en visitant l’ancienne demeure de Trosky (qui fut assassiné dans sa maison pourtant bien protégé). Pour l’histoire Leon Trosky a dû s’exiler de l’ex URSS en sous le gouvernement de Staline et a trouvé refuge à Mexico City avec l’aide de son ami Diego Riviera. Le couple a d’ailleurs accueilli sous leur toit Trosky et sa femme pendant 2 ans. La liaison secrète entre Frida et Trosky a du certainement être un motif de changement de maison du couple russe.
Take a step back in time by visiting Trosky’s former house (who was murdered at home, despite his house was so safe). As a reminder, Leon Trosky had to exile from the former USSR under Stalin’s government and found refuge in Mexico City, with the help of his friend Diego Riviera. The couple also hosted Trosky and his wife at their house for 2 years. The secret affair between Frida and Trosky must have been a reason for the Russian couple to move house.
Pour les archi fans de Frida et Diego comme moi il faut absolument visiter leur studio d’étude. Construit sur deux entités distinctes mais reliées par un pont cet incroyable bijou d’architecture moderne fut leur studio de création et maison respective. C’est dans le studio de Diego que Frida a surpris son mari la trompant avec… sa sœur !
For the big fans of Frida and Diego as I am, it is essential to visit their study studio. Built on two distinct entities but linked together by a bridge, this incredible jewel of modern architecture used to be their design studio and house in the same time. In Diego’s studio, Frida caught one day her husband cheating on her with… her sister!
Ou manger : dans les marchés couverts du quartier ou l’on se régalent de Quasadillas ou Tostadas.
Food: in the covered markets of the district where you can enjoy Quesadillas or Tostadas.
Dans le célèbre restaurant de viande : La Coyoacana. Le boeuf est DINGUE.

Boire un café et petit déjeuner au Café EL Jarroche.
Drink coffee and have breakfast at Café EL Jarroche.
Faire la célèbre attraction des barques de Xochimilco.
Dans les fameux canaux tout au sud de Mexico City. Eviter d’y aller le weekend c’est complètement pris d’assaut par les mexicains qui viennent fêter en trombe anniversaires et autres évènements. C’est l’activité la plus touristique de la ville mais cela nous a bien fait rire et est une parfaite option pour chiller un lendemain de soirée !
Have a boat-trip: Xochimilco boats. In the famous canals located at the bottom south of Mexico City. Do avoid going there on weekends, as many Mexicans chose this area to celebrate their birthdays and further events. It is the most touristic activity in the city, but we had lots of fun, and it is a perfect option as an after-party chill-out 🙂
