cooking class in Mandalay!

30 octobre 2017

I really liked this city maybe because I met Tjitske there, a lovely Dutch girl I met on the bus between Bagan and Mandalay. We spent 3 wonderful days together. In this city, you can breathe a little more than in Rangoon, and what is great is that you can travel by motorbike taxi. In reality, there are old scooters and most of the time you do not even wear a helmet.

The city of Mandalay itself offers few points of interest but the surroundings are great. To get there, we used to jump in a truck with a platform at the back, seating in the middle of the inhabitants and as soon as the driver screamed, it was the signal to go down. Such a nice atmosphere! You can explore the surroundings in half a day like the village of Amarapura, famous for its immense wooden bridge.

In Mandalay, we did a cooking class! Just reserve by A Glimpse of Mandalay, count 30 euros all-inclusive for the day. Pickup at the hotel is around 9 a.m. is on, in order to drive to the local market to buy all the vegetables you need; after that there is a little tea ceremony (Burmese tea is a very thick milk tea).

Situated in the open air in a typical Burmese setting, an adorable chef and her very thoughtful staff will give you the cooking class. Each one of us prepared 5 dishes in total: chicken curry, tea leaf salad, vegetable curry, rice powder balls, bean salad. Burmese cuisine is a mixture of Thai and Chinese with a ton of peanuts.

Lunchtime is of course the best time it was divine. It is possible to take a nap before going for a bike ride until sunset (which I could not do because I had to take a bus to head to the South).
